@RepAdamSchiff Don’t be fooled by the rhetoric that the USPS is loosing money. It was never designed to make a profit. Neither does our military. USPS is a National public service funded by our tax $ thru Fed Gov. this is an election yr. attack on our voting.

@Nordstrom Thanks for your quick response. The problem is that USPS said that it was left in front of my house we 1:37 so it was clearly delivered to the wrong place. I feel like customer service should have helped me and not make me call back in 24 hours.

Basically, Bezos sucks. We know that. And I would love to see them step up in this election, but doing so would not be profitable for them as they’d either have to have a smaller percentage of their packages delivered by USPS or have their own delivery vans

USPS has a legal imperative to deliver to all addresses so Amazon can cut costs by outsourcing delivery to rural and lower density areas. But for the USPS to lose Amazon’s business would put them in even more financial danger, even though they often make a loss from their

Amazon dumping packages on them. No way to recover costs or make a profit. Big problem. USPS carry’s tons of advertising which is junk mail. No profit or cost recovery.

I just spoke to @USPS regarding a mail hold issue. In the survey following the call I was asked, “On a scale of 1-10, how likely are you to recommend the USPS to a friend?” Um, do I have a choice?

@JoshPhillipsPhD A four-day USPS week isn't ideal, but it's probably one of the least intrusive cost-cutting measures possible. One thing I'd add is that the extra day off should come in the middle of the week (Tuesday or Wednesday) to prevent the longer delivery delays of a three-day weekend.

Grok: along with the headline phrasing about suspending "pension payments to postal workers and civil servants." However, this is a slight exaggeration or simplification of the actual announcement. Here's the precise situation based on official USPS statements and multiple reports from April 9, 2026: - USPS is temporarily suspending only its employer contributions to the defined benefit portion of the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) annuity (the traditional pension part). - This is not suspending: - Employees' own payroll deductions/contributions into FERS (those continue and are still sent to the Office of Personnel Management). - Payments to current retirees (their annuity checks are not affected in the short term). - Contributions to the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) — the 401(k)-style portion, including both employee and employer automatic/matching contributions. - Employer contributions to Social Security. - The move is expected to free up about $2.5 billion in cash for the current fiscal year (by stopping ~$200 million biweekly employer payments to OPM for FERS). - USPS describes it as a short-term cash conservation step due to a severe financial crisis and warnings that the agency could run out of cash by February 2027 without reforms or additional measures (like proposed stamp price increases). This is similar to a temporary suspension USPS did back in 2011 during another liquidity crunch. Unions like NALC and APWU have noted it has no immediate impact on current or future retirees' benefits, as those are protected by law—the funding mechanism is just being paused on the employer side for now. The post's wording ("suspend pension payments to postal workers and civil servants") can sound scarier than the reality, which is why some replies in the thread express confusion or alarm about retirees not getting paid. In truth, it's targeted at future funding obligations rather than stopping outgoing checks to existing pensioners. USPS has long faced structural issues, including legacy pre-funding requirements for retiree health benefits from the 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act, declining mail volumes in some areas, and rising costs. This is one stopgap while pushing for congressional action. If you'd like, I can pull more details from the official USPS release or explain how FERS works for postal employees.

  • BlackthornDF

@Roadie is a horrid company to have deliver goods. They make the USPS look like a model of efficiency and good customer service. (And just to be clear, USPS sucks.) Out of four deliveries in the last few years from the local @HomeDepot two of them have been incomplete. For the Roadie managers counting on their fingers, that's a 50% FAILURE RATE. If this wasn't bad enough, they don't make good on the problem. In both cases, I had to make repeat calls to HomeDepot over several days, and neither case was it resolved satisfactorily. I had to drive to Home Depot to pick up the missing items myself. HD staff: "We hate them, but we're forced to use them." Instead of charging a delivery fee, they should pay for the customers' time wasted trying to straighten out their screwups.

@Molson_Hart The decline of USPS is lamentable. I first noticed the problem about 15 years ago when Registered mail was routinely stolen. This was once treated as a serious federal crime. Now Registered mail is basically a grab bag for postal workers hoping to find cash. Now I am constantly re-delivering neighbors mail erroneously delivered to me. Neighbors have for sure gotten my mail and opened it.
