He had no public criminal history or red flags that would have flagged him as a risk during standard vetting. The family sued FedEx, Big Topspin, and Horner in 2022 for negligence, but there's no evidence the companies could have detected or prevented this—his actions were a deliberate crime during a delivery, not tied to any company policy or oversight failure. Blame belongs solely to Horner. Media attaches "FedEx driver" for context because that's how the public knew him in the moment, but it's bad luck for the company, just like any employer whose worker snaps unpredictably.
