Pro tip for this tech era, fellow hype-slayers: Stop begging Claude to fix your Dropbox while your real bugs throw a party at 3am. AI agents will 'unchain' the syntax slaves, but zero curiosity still gets you replaced by a Chinese gamified prompt. Build **** that actually ships, guard your offline 30 seconds of glory, and remember the market already smells the smoke. We're all just scripting the interview while CEOs whoosh past reality. Stay skeptical, ship anyway.

@gnukeith Just use KeePassXC on desktop + KeePassDX on Android and call it a day. fully offline zero server trust issues. Sync? Throw the .kdbx file in Dropbox/Google Drive/OneDrive/whatever you already use. Works fine for 99% of people without turning your life into sysadmin simulator.

@xbulletproofing it's actually not on us at all! dropbox threatened to shut down our account because of the amount of downloads we were receiving. so we had to do something and limit it in some way. I wish it could be open, but we have over 3 terabytes of content saved and we couldn't just lose

Something interesting happened today. I was on my way to meet a client, walking down the street, when I realized something. The document I needed to send them was still sitting on my laptop at home. Not in Google Drive. Not in Dropbox. Just a file on my computer. Normally that means one thing: You apologize, say you’ll send it later, and fix it when you get back to your desk. But this time I tried something different. I pulled out my phone and texted Claude. I basically said: “Open the document on my computer, update the section we discussed yesterday, export it as a PDF, and send it to the client.” And then I kept walking. Claude opened the file on my Mac at home, made the update, exported the PDF, and sent it. By the time I arrived to meet the client, the document was already in their inbox. No remote desktop. No complicated setup. Just a message from my phone. This is a new feature called Dispatch inside Claude Cowork. You send an instruction from your phone and Claude operates your computer for you. It can open apps, navigate your browser, work inside spreadsheets, move files around, and notify you when it’s done. Your computer still needs to stay on. But you don’t need to be at it. Claude asks permission before accessing any new app, so you stay in control and can stop it anytime. But the real shift here is bigger than the feature itself. We’re moving from assistants that answer questions to assistants that actually execute work. And honestly, this feels like the OpenCLAW moment for everyone. Not for developers. Not for power users. For anyone. You just text what you want done, and your computer does it. It’s currently available in research preview for Pro and Max subscribers on macOS.

@microchipgnu @kleffew94 I was an early adopter of Dropbox because it solved a problem I had. It worked on my computer and any other computer I might want to use Stablecoins do not work at 99% of the places I spend money. If that fact changed I would change my mind

Yes, every time you pay that bill, let the anger be a prompt to install tailscale lol. That's what I do because I have wasted a small fortune on useless subs. Now I can login to all my private devices, vpn through my NAS. Who needs dropbox when your files are available everywhere? Time machine works from your hotel in another city. No blocking of API calls. All free.

Had a VP justify him working CONPLETELY out of his personal dropbox by saying “well, I was the only one working last MS outage”. Checkmate. Even though his clients are the only reason we have compliance exposure.

@BenjaminBadejo What's Dropbox? Microsoft shoves OneDrive down the throats of Windows users to steal your personal data. It's not a cloud service. It's a trojan horse.

Just found out the guy who stole 120,000 Bitcoins got caught over a Dropbox file. What a genius. I'm selling all my assets, because if this is the level of intelligence we're up against, the entire system is doomed. I mean, who needs security when you've got human error, right?

Shadow IT used to mean employees running Dropbox without IT approval. Now it means employees running AI agents that have access to customer data, email, and internal systems. Same problem, different stakes. The liability exposure is not comparable.

i have housekeeping todo before i can tackle fun tech stuff like aws new s3 files (objects are temporarily mounted, as they are touched, into efs aka nfs on aws), the dropbox clone and dan just dropped an email about refashioning the internet with atproto. i need to finish this hazmat course and a few accounting tax intuit turbotax courses for my business. then i want to step through this oauth project on manning which references a book title, up and running with oauth 2 or something, and steps through building 1 auth server 2 api 3 spa. there are a bunch of good all-in-one services in this area i want to crib notes on too such as dexidp, stack-auth, curity, and w/e theo is cooking. he likes better-auth iirc.
